Dani and Janet fell in love with Syracuse, Sicily, in the pouring rain of winter 1989.
We were on a family holiday at the time, touring Italy by car, and the unusually bad weather prevented us from reaching our pre-planned destinations. We arrived and stayed in Syracuse for the duration, and we were immediately in awe of the city’s historic beauty and archeological sites; some of which are now World Heritage sites.
The landscape of the region is dominated by the often snow-capped stratovolcano Mount Etna and the harsh rugged beauty of authentic Sicily. A passion for food is evident throughout the south-east, with the wonderful taste of fresh fish, vegetables, lemons, blood oranges, and the eminent splendour of Sicilian desserts, all contributed to our immediate love for this Island.
